The County Assembly of Lamu, through its Finance, Budget and Appropriations Committee, held a series of public participation forums on October 6th and 7th, 2025, to collect public views on the County Annual Development Plan (CADP) for the 2026/2027 financial year.

The public hearings, held across different wards, form part of the Assembly’s commitment to representation, legislation, and oversight, while ensuring that citizens actively contribute to the county’s planning and budgeting process.

During the forums, residents had the opportunity to discuss and prioritize key development projects aimed at improving service delivery and infrastructure across the county.

In Mkunumbi Ward, the meeting took place at Uziwa Social Hall, where residents identified priority areas including fencing of dispensaries and schools, road extensions, improvement of health facilities, construction of a jetty at Kizuke, and installation of electricity and water systems.

In Hongwe Ward, residents convened at Bomani Social Hall and proposed the construction and upgrading of roads, renovation of social halls, and installation of solar streetlights to improve accessibility and enhance community safety.

At Mwana Arafa, which brought together residents from Shella and Mkomani Wards, community members emphasized the need for seawall protection in Shella, construction of ECDE classrooms and social halls, improved healthcare infrastructure, solar street lighting, playgrounds, and cabro paving for urban beautification and better mobility.

Following the successful engagements, the Budget and Appropriations Committee underscored the importance of prioritizing ongoing projects, promoting equitable resource allocation across wards, and supporting initiatives that enhance youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

The Committee further recommended that all countywide projects be assigned to specific wards for improved tracking and accountability.

By facilitating these forums, the County Assembly continues to uphold the principles of transparency, inclusivity, and participatory governance, ensuring that development planning reflects the aspirations and priorities of the people of Lamu County.
