The County Assembly of Lamu successfully concluded a one-week capacity-building training on Governance and Ethics in the Public Sector, held at Tumel Hotel from 10th to 14th November 2025. The programme brought together staff from various departments to strengthen professional competence, enhance ethical standards, and promote integrity in public service.

The training covered a wide range of thematic areas vital to effective governance. Participants were taken through the Fundamentals of Governance in the Public Sector, including the principles that guide public institutions, the importance of accountability, and the role of ethical conduct in supporting effective legislative operations.

The programme also addressed Ethics and Integrity, equipping staff with knowledge on values-based service, integrity obligations, and how to apply ethical guidelines in their daily duties. Sessions on Accountability and Transparency provided practical approaches to ensuring openness, responsible use of public resources, and compliance with legal and institutional frameworks.

Another key component of the training focused on Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making, where staff explored leadership principles and frameworks for making sound and ethical decisions within the public sector. Participants further engaged in discussions on Combating Corruption and Promoting Integrity, examining anti-corruption strategies, preventive measures, and the importance of strengthening integrity systems within the County Assembly.

The final part of the programme highlighted Building an Ethical Organizational Culture, emphasizing professionalism, teamwork, and collective responsibility in shaping a trusted and effective public institution. The training concluded with a programme evaluation and official closing session.
